Obituary

Salomon V. Valena, 87 of Carpentersville, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the St. Alexius Medical Center following a short illness.
Salomon was born July 16, 1924 in the Philippines the son of Hipolito E. and Tecla (Villapando) Valena. He grew up in the Philippines and put himself through school, graduating college. He was united in marriage to Filomena Valencia on May 31, 1951. In the early 1970’s they moved to the United States and made their home in Chicago. He was employed as a mechanical engineer at GBC for many years, retiring in the early 1990’s. Salomon loved time with his grandchildren, was very good with his hands and enjoyed fixing things, going to flea markets, sewing, singing, talking with people and sharing stories and jokes & later in life he enjoyed making desserts.
Salomon is survived by his wife, Filomena of Carpentersville, his children, Jesus Valena of The Philippines, Pablito Valena of Schaumburg, Corazon Tungol of Bolingbrook, Irma Valena, Edilberto Valena, Maria Fabi, Rosario Valena & Dina Gahol all of Carpentersville, twelve grandchildren & three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8th & Friday, Dec.9th at DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
