Robert F. Holmes, 70 of Huntley, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 19, 2014 at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 29, 1944 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Edwin and Jeanette (Bazarek) Holmes. He grew up in Arlington Heights and on February 1, 1964 married Beverly A. Proeber in Buffalo Grove. In 1968 they moved to Carpentersville and Bob worked for the United States Postal Service as a Vehicle Operations Supervisor. He retired in 1999 and in 2002 they moved to Huntley. He loved to travel, especially the southwestern states, was an outdoor sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was extremely handy, could fix anything and knew how to do it correctly.
He is survived by his wife Beverly of Huntley, son, Christopher Holmes of Marengo, his daughter, Roberta (Rodney) Peters of Union and his grandchildren, Jon & Michael Holmes, Derek & Kyle Peters.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday with a 8:00 p.m. Service of Remembrance at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
