James W. Verden, Sr., 77 of Marengo, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 24, 2014 at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals & Clinics in Madison following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 11, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Robert and Agnes (McConville) Verden. He enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1954 and served his country in the Army & Army Reserves. He was united in marriage to Sandra L. Farbisz on July 16, 1960. The couple lived in Chicago, adopted three children and later moved to Schiller Park for 23 years before moving to Marengo in 1995. He was an equipment operator for Peoples Gas for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. In retirement he worked for the McHenry County Conservation District, had been a member of the Union Lions Club, enjoyed time with his children, helping his grandchildren with homework, especially math, enjoyed fishing, reading and was an avid Bears fan.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Marengo, his children, James Verden, Jr., of Marengo, Susan Schulze of Carol Stream & Kimberly Rentner also of Marengo, his grandchildren, Heather & Brandon Schulze, Georgia & Layla Rentner, his brothers, Robert (Marilyn) Verden of Winter Haven, Florida & Thomas (Catherine) Verden of Carol Stream, his brothers-in-law, Mel Clark of Elgin, Thomas Kindle of Colorado, Dennis Farbisz of River Grove, and Ted (Maxine) Farbisz of Huntley. He was the uncle to 13 and the great-uncle to 24. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Cameron, sisters, Marlene Kindle & Beverly Clark.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28th, at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley and the family will greet friends after 9:00 a.m. at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Awareness, Susan G. Komen for the Cure or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sandy, I am so sorry to hear of Jims passing. I was not aware that he had health problems. Even though I had never met him I had a connection to him in your friendship. May both you and Jim find peace in the Lord.
