Irene A. Buckalew, 93 of Lake In The Hills, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock following a short illness.
She was born August 21, 1921 in Bloomfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Stanley and Wladaslawia (Piotrowski) Kurkewicz. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1939, then worked at Westinghouse where she met her husband, Homer. She and Homer were married 70 years at the time of his death on January 2, 2014. The couple raised two children in Bloomfield, before moving to East Hanover in 1963. They moved to Lake In The Hills in 1998 to live with their daughter and her family.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Eileen (John) Olsen, her son, Gregory (Jacqueline) Buckalew, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven siblings, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A memorial will be held for family and friends
this summer in Illinois. Memorials in her name may be made to the charity of your choice.
