Richard B. Jensen

Obituary

Richard B. Jensen of Elgin died peacefully on April 17, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.

Richard was born in Chicago, IL on September 25, 1945, son of two wonderful parents Harriett and Emil Jensen. As a young man he developed a love for fishing and hunting and became a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Elgin VFW Post 1307. He married his lovely wife, Lynda Grex on August 26, 1966. Many people knew Richard from Sportsman’s Lodge in Elgin and the Building Department of Menards. He celebrated many little things the rest of us take for granted. He loved his wife, his kids, his country, a cold Old Style and a rare steak all with a passion. His friendliness and kindness to all people and his devotion and love to his family is a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul. His inspiring presence and warm smile will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known him.

Richard proudly served our country in the US Navy as an Aviation Ordinanceman Petty Officer Third Class from 1965 to 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda, his daughters, Kimberly (Gary) Penrod and Christine (Michael) Missert and by his grandchildren, Samantha (Dan) Lipp and Garrick Penrod and great grandson Garrin Lipp and his brother, Ralph (Dee) Jensen and sister, Janet (Paul) Wauchope and by many amazing nieces and nephews that he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held this Friday, April 24 beginning at 2pm at Defiore –Jorgensen Funeral Home on Dundee Road in Huntley with a Memorial Service and Military ceremony beginning at 7:00pm.

I worked with Rich for a couple years and will always remember how he could always tell if you were having a bad day and lift your spirits with a joke or story. He will be missed and my prayers are with those close to him.

I worked with Rich for several years. He was a very caring and genuine person. He was the kind of person that would give you the shirt off his back. He shared many stories from the sportmans lodge , fishing trips, and past managerial experiences. I know he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and co-workers. My condolences to wife and family.

I have known Rich from his days at Sportsmen's Lodge and after our first meeting we became friends for the rest of our lives. Rich's humor and his ability to work with and understand the feelings of others were some of the things we all will miss forever. Sorry for your loss and all the friends Rich has left behind !
