Obituary

Harold L. “Doc” Cummings, 91 of Huntley, passed away on Friday evening, April 17, 2015 at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 13, 1924 in Elma, Iowa the son of Clyde and Blanche (Beaston) Cummings. He was a WWII veteran serving as a medic in the South Pacific during that war in battles that included Tarawa. He was united in marriage to Ida Michael on November 12, 1955. The couple made their home in California where he completed his working career at the Naval Weapons Station with a total of 35 years for the federal government.

He is survived by his daughters, Sheryl (Jay) Jonagan of Huntley, Connie Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Renee (Richard) Russell of Marquette, Iowa, his step-daughter, Janet (Tom) Dye of Brentwood, California, his grandchildren, Kari (Mitchell) Sandy, Kelli (Joe) Reeves, Mark (Stephanie) Vestal, Craig Vestal & Jennifer Vestal, Richard (Amy) Russell Jr., Robert (Kimberly) Russell, Ronald Russell, Nathan (Karen) Dye & Juliana (Warren) Berlin, 22 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and good friends, Danny & Ron. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida, his son, Harold Jr., his brothers, Carlton, Don, Claude, Dale, Bernard, his sisters, Evelyn, Viola (Sis), Dorothy and his great grandson, Vincent Vestal.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the 1:30 p.m. Service of Remembrance on Saturday, May 23rd at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gazebo Valor Quilts.
