Dr. Thomas J. Nykiel, 69, of Sun City, Huntley, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 27, 2015 with his family by his side.
He was born June 15, 1946 in Berwyn, Illinois, the son of Thomas C. and Ann (Trasko) Nykiel. He was raised in Chicago and attended Loyola University. He was united in marriage to Connie Corso on June 1, 1968 in Chicago Heights. Tom graduated from the Loyola School of Dentistry in 1972 and went into private practice opening a dental office in Olympia Fields. He and Connie made their home in Chicago Heights, Flossmoor & Frankfort. In the early 2000’s he sold his practice, retiring after 30 years in the dental field, and moved with his wife to Huntley. He was a dedicated parishioner at Infant Jesus of Prague and St. Mary Catholic Church, enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing and was an avid bridge player. He was past-president of the South Suburban Branch of the Chicago Dental Society, a fellow of the Illinois State Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of Huntley, his children, Jackie Berry of Aurora, Thomas Nykiel of Chicago, Joni (Kurt) Van Alstine of Huntley and Rebecca (Joe) Bruckner of Frankfort, his grandchildren, Sean, Alec, Kyle, Nate, Hailey, Joey, Jack & Juliette, his sisters, Carol Nykiel of Chicago, Ann Marie (Doug) Grieve of Lake Bluff and his brother, David (Rosemary) Nykiel of Naperville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley and at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road Huntley on Thursday, July 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, www.myotonic.org
