Elaine A. Geschke, 90, of Huntley passed away July 18, 2015 at her home in Huntley.
She was born September 23, 1924 in Rockham, South Dakota, the daughter of Rev. Curtis H. Wild and Elsa L. (Amling) Wild. She graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, Illinois and attended Valparaiso University in Indiana.
While working at Sears, she met Calvin Geschke and the two were married on February 14, 1948 in Maywood. Their son, Clifford, was born in 1953. The couple moved from Des Plaines to Park Ridge and then Crystal Lake. During much of that time, Elaine worked as the Office Manager at Cal’s graphic art studio until they both retired in 1986. From 1992 to 2003, they lived in Hemet, California, and finally returned to Northern Illinois.
Elaine was a devoted wife and a much-loved mother, grandmother and aunt. Outside of family, her passion was for the church. The daughter of a Lutheran pastor, she was active in the church her entire life, working part time as church secretary, teaching Sunday School, and organizing service projects. During retirement, she and Cal organized the group that opened the Bethesda Thrift Store in Crystal Lake.
Elaine was talkative and outgoing, always ready to spread God’s Word. She made friends quickly and kept in touch with friends and family around the world. She was hard-working and determined, always on the move. She and Calvin were blessed with over 62 years of marriage. Together, they traveled widely and touched many lives. Since Cal’s passing in 2010, she lived alone in Huntley, near her son and his family.
Elaine is survived by her son Clifford (Susan) Geschke of Crystal Lake and her two grandsons Tim and Paul and her brother, Curtis H. (Marilyn) Wild II of Tryon, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin and her sisters Priscilla and Lenore.
The family will greet friends beginning 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 11008 N. Church Street, Huntley, followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Entombment in Acacia Park Cemetery, Chicago. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Huntley, IL or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake, IL.
