Obituary

James H. Garbrecht, 71 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2015 at JourneyCare in Woodstock following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 21, 1944 in Palatine, Illinois the son of John and Lucile (Moeller) Garbrecht. He graduated from Palatine High School and then attended Northwestern University where he graduated with honors. He was employed for many years with F.H. Bonn Company where he served as President. Jim was united in marriage to Erika Mann on November 3, 1990. He later worked for Haiges Manufacturing in Huntley, retiring in 2008. He loved to walk his dogs, enjoyed playing pinochle, was a member of the RV Travelers Club in Sun City and the Good Sam Camping Club. He was very involved at St. John’s United Church of Christ –Harmony and helped organize Fay’s BBQ Chicken and Pork Shop.

He is survived by his loving wife, Erika, his sister, Susan Bonner, brother-in-law, Larry, his sister-in-law, Paula Garbrecht, his step-daughter, Sabine (Phil) Prather, step-son, Robert (Jennifer) Dietrich, nephew, Brian (Vanessa) Garbrecht, his nieces, Heidi Stolt Bonner, Laura (Jim) Wormsley and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Garbrecht and nephew, Larry Bonner.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ-Harmony, 11821 E. Grant Hwy., Hampshire. Burial will be in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Cary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal House Shelter, Huntley, The Heifer Project or the charity of your choice.
