Gerry Raymond, 73, of Sun City in Huntley passed away peacefully on July 30, 2015 after many years of beating the odds during her courageous battle with cancer.
She was born October 15, 1941 in Chicago, the daughter of Michael and Frances (Filipiak) Stopka. A graduate of Steinmetz High School, Gerry moved to Norridge with her extended family as a teen. Shortly afterwards, she met and married her beloved husband and best friend of over 54 years, Frederick Raymond. Together they had two daughters, Cindy and Juliann, and enjoyed many years in Norridge before moving to Sun City in Huntley.
Gerry’s many wonderful friends have cherished her fun-loving spirit and beautiful smile over the years. Of her many talents, she was an especially accomplished gardener with an uncanny ability to get anything to bloom. She was also tough to beat at a good game of cards (or any other game of strategy). Gerry and Fred spent recent years traveling near and far, often in the company of good friends.
A much-loved wife. mother and grandmother, Gerry is survived by her husband, Fred, her daughter Cindy Raymond, her favorite grandson, William ‘Will’ Howell, her sister, Charlotte (Richard) Heuer and close cousins Ray and Barbara Drufke and their families. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Juliann. Gerry particularly wanted to thank Dr. Pamela Kaiser and Sue at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for all of their help and perseverance.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m.Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles. Memorials in her name may be made to JourneyCare Foundation, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010.
