Obituary

Kendall E. Grate, 85 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 8, 1929 in Blandinsville, Illinois, the son of Bernard and Beryl (Huff) Grate. He served his country in the National Guard and was the owner and operator of Twin Oaks Dairy Service. He was united in marriage to Dorothea “Dot” Medal on July 22, 1978. The couple made their home in Wood Dale and Ken was a truck driver and driving instructor for UPS. Following his retirement he continued in sales for many years. In 2004 they moved to Huntley. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Mason’s, the American Legion and a member of Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church. His sense of humor and willingness to help anyone in need endeared him to many people throughout his life. Ken and Dot enjoyed many social events, dinners and evenings with their close friends and neighbors.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 37 years, Dorothea “Dot”, his son Daniel and daughters, Mary (Mike), Patti (Ken), Laura, Deb, Suzie (Mike), Dot’s son Terrance and daughter Cathy, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kristy and Michael. Recently, Ken lost his best friend and brother, Lynford and sister-in-law, Chrystal.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, and on Thursday, August 6th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10805 Main Street, Huntley. Entombment will be in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
