Obituary

Richard Dominick D’Ambrosia, 68 of Marengo, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at his home from complications of ALS.

He was born June 12, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Dominick Anthony and Josephine (Penzato) D’Ambrosia. He enlisted in the United States Marines Corps Reserve and served as a Staff Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Janalee Sircher on February 3, 1973 in Chicago. The couple made their home in Bloomingdale. Richard received his Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering and numerous Master’s Degrees from Illinois Institute of Technology as well as an MBA from DePaul University. He retired as an Assistant Chief Engineer with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District after 34 years. The couple later made their home in Itasca where he served as a Trustee for the Village of Itasca. In 2002 they moved to Marengo. Richard was a lifelong student who enjoyed learning and teaching, spending time with his family and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Janalee, his sons, Matthew (Margaret) D’Ambrosia, Mark (Kelly) D’Ambrosia and John (Kristin) D’Ambrosia and his grandchildren, Dominick, Dennis, Taylor , Ethan & Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant grandson Olin Zachary.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22nd and from 9:30 until the time of the 10:30 a.m. Funeral Service of Wednesday, March 23rd at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Les Turner ALS Foundation, 5550 Touhy Avenue, Skokie, Illinois 60077-3254.

My Condolences go out to Jan and her family on the loss of her husband. Rich was a good friend of mine who introduced me to others who also became friends of mine. We did a lot together in our younger years and those memories remain to this day. I am happy that we remained in contact all these years and will always remember him. May God Bless Him and his Family.
