Dennis N. Laymon

Obituary

Dennis N. Laymon, 65 of Huntley, formerly of Woodstock, passed away on Saturday, May 14th in Woodstock following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 4, 1951 in Terra Haute, Indiana, the son of Lewis R. and B. Lucille (Erwin) Laymon. He was raised in Hazel Dell, Illinois and graduated from Casey High School. He later received his Bachelor Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1973. On February 28, 1976, he was united in marriage to Joan E. Flesch in Batavia, Illinois. The couple made their home in La Crosse, Wisconsin and later Crystal Lake and Woodstock. Dennis worked in sales in the plastics industry most of his career. He had a deep love for his family. He loved fast cars, motorcycles, hot rods and bon fires. His infectious sense of humor and devilish antics will be missed by all. Life’s Journey Is Not To Arrive At The Grave Safely In A Well Preserved Body, But Rather To Skid In Sideways, Totally Worn Out, Shouting, “Holy Shit… What A Ride!”

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Huntley, his son, Doug Staggs of Denver, Colorado, his sisters, Martha (Marvin) Morgan of Philo, Illinois, Amy (Chris) Loyet of Glen Carbon, Illinois, his father and mother-in-law, John and Kathleen Flesch of Huntley, his brother’s-in-law, Jim Flesch of Byron, Minnesota, John (Kris) Flesch of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Bob (Ellen) Flesch of Shorewood, Illinois, his nieces, Michelle, Melissa, Madeleine, Jessica, Kate, Jennifer & Alli, his nephews, Matt, John, Steven, Daniel, Matt & Mike.

Joan, I am just so sad for you and want you to know I will be attending his Celebration on Thursday evening. You sure did everything you could for Denny and I know he loved you all the more for being there for him. Claudia

Ancient Egyptians believed that upon death they would be asked two questions and their answers would determine whether they could continue their journey in the afterlife. The first question was, “Did you bring joy?” The second was, “Did you find joy?” Leo Buscaglia Denny found his joy in living life to the fullest and in loving Joan. He also brought joy to all of us who knew him. Rock this next journey dear friend, and may your memory continue to bring us joy forevermore.

My deepest condolences to the Layman family. I didn't know him as long as his other classmates from the Class of '69, but I do remember being his friend and he mine during my last 2 years of high school. My 20yrs of service separated me from my classmates, but I did remember a few through the years. Dennis was one I thought of often. Again, so sorry for your lose.

Joan - It was less than a year ago when we were enjoying good times in Nashville. I especially remember how happy both of you were to be at BB King's listening to some blues in the heart of country music. Denny was always fun to be around and will be dearly missed. Prayers to you and your family.

Thank you Dennis for all you bestowed upon me. Your humor, wisdom, and charm is a gift which remains with me now. You were the glue for us all. You joined our ragged seams and helped us fit as we should. There are endless miles of open road now.

Hi Joan, You don't know me, but I had the privilege working with Deniss professionally. We broke all the rules in customer/supplier relationship - we talked religion and politics and enjoyed every minute of our time! It is not often you can claim a business acquainteance a friend, but I make that claim with Dennis. May we all live like he lived, outloud and fully engaged. Roger Smith Neenah WI

I was Dennis's roommate at EIU for two years. He was a handsome and charming young man. He was funny and impetious, totally disrespectful of those in power. He loved his motorcycle and gave me fits when I was his roommate. He was truly special. He was a grand person who gave me many moments of joy. I miss him.
