Obituary

Barbara Ann Berg, 91, of Huntley, a retired Registered Nurse, passed away at her home on the morning of Saturday, May 21, 2016.

She was born on September 10, 1924 in Chicago, the daughter and one of nine girls to Francis and Elizabeth (Hollich) Koegel. She graduated from St. Mary of Nazareth School of Nursing. She met Arthur V. Berg in 1948 at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. They were united in marriage on October 28, 1950 in Chicago. Barbara worked as a surgical nurse at a variety of Chicagoland institutions including, Illinois Research, Holy Family Hospital and she retired from St. Matthew Convalescent Center in the mid 1980’s. The couple made their home in Chicago and later the northwest suburbs, moving to Huntley in 2002. Barbara was very social, loved people, was compassionate, an avid reader and active in her church. She loved musicals, concerts and movies and was known as a master storyteller.

She is survived by her children, Royal (Monica) Berg of Oak Brook, Marian (Tina de La Luz) Berg of Albuquerque, Carrie (Mike) Gordon of Fort Collins, Colorado, Thomas Berg of Downers Grove, Gregory (Kimberly) Berg of Bloomington, Paul Berg of Chicago, Dr. Christopher (Laurie) Berg of Hinsdale and Timothy (Linda) Berg of Plainfield, her grandchildren, Arthur, Joseph, Robert, Jesse (Rosalind), Spencer (Abby), Jason, Sarah, Rachel, Justin, Jake, Andrew, Luke, Timothy Jr. & Genevieve, her great-grandson, Jackson and her sister, Elizabeth Klocek of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Arthur and seven sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and the family will greet friends after 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be in Maryhill Cemetery, Niles.
