Larry D. Piekos

Obituary

Larry D. Piekos, 70

Larry Piekos, a lifelong Woodstock resident and local business owner passed away peacefully on October 18th. Larry was born in Chicago in 1946 to Adolph and Lois (Knaack), his family soon found a plot of land on Hickory Lane in Woodstock. Larry would often fondly remember his father building their homestead, carefully bending each nail back after it had been pulled out of an existing structure. His admiration for his father continued through his life as he added on to the house for a family of his own.

In 1972, Larry, his brother Lance and their friend Bill Ladefoged started Cycle Craft. Their passion for all things motorcycle became their livelihood. Larry began using his artistic nature and engineering skills he learned in school to fabricate his own racing motorcycles. His builds have won awards and races across the country.

Larry lived a beautiful life, earmarked with ingenuity and integrity. He celebrated crowning achievements such as winning the 1993 AMA National Ice Race on a bike of his design. He developed an unparalleled respect in his industry. One could witness the joy in Larry’s eyes when he found the perfect motorcycle for a rider, if necessary he would dedicate weeks to developing a bike for someone he had just met. As they rode away, Larry would look on in humble gratitude. The name on Larry’s building says it all, Cycle Craft. The man was the embodiment of dedication to the craft.

Larry’s passing leaves a great void in the hearts of a host of family and friends. Surviving Larry is his loving twin brother Lance who was his lifelong friend and playmate. They shared the love of everything mechanical, especially motorcycles. Lance will miss their dreams of sharing retirement. Larry also leaves his brother Jerry, and his sisters Nancy and Jeannie (Randy). Larry loved his seven nieces and nephews, who gave him nine grandnieces and grandnephews to dote upon. Lastly, he leaves his adoring wife Marcy (White), with whom he shared 40 precious years of his life and his son Mark with whom he enjoyed a relationship built on integrity, honesty and deep connection. His dedication and contributions to his family, his craft, and Woodstock will often be remembered, so many a times when the memories are worn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gavers Community Cancer Foundation.

In the end, life is stronger than death".
