James A. Schmieder, 74, of Algonquin, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 following a short illness.
He was born May 16, 1942 in Chicago, the son of George A. and Eva (DeStefano) Schmieder.
He grew up in Chicago and enlisted in the United States Army. On February 27, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary F. Granias. The couple made their home in North Riverside and then Hanover Park, where they raised their family. Jim started with The Pyle-National Company in Chicago at an early age staying with the company working his way up for over 48 years, retiring in the late 2000’s. In 1995 they moved to Algonquin. He loved Chicago sports, had been an Illinois High School Association Umpire. He served the Schaumburg Athletic Association as a coach, baseball commissioner and later association president. He enjoyed bowling and model railroading.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Algonquin, his children, Christine (Michael) Johnson of Joliet, James (Cara) Schmieder of Bartlett and Michele (Stephen) Young of Wonder Lake, his grandchildren, Meghann, Zachary, Kyle, Jake, Kelly, Amber, Shelby, Tommy and Bobby, his great grandchildren, Kylee and Autumn and his brother, George P. (Pat) Schmieder of Woodridge. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley and at the church on Saturday, October 29th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road.
