Obituary

Diane L. Gerber, 75 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away on Friday evening, January 20, 2017 at JourneyCare in Barrington following a lengthy illness.

She was born September 24, 1941 in Chicago, the daughter of Walter and Leona (Mumenthal) Jakubik. She graduated from Fenton High School and later received her Bachelors of Science at Bradley University in Peoria. She served as Director of Laboratory Services at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago, then specialized in microbiology at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. She later worked for Baxter Labratories and then consulted for Abbott Labs. She was united in marriage to David F. Gerber on October 27, 1984 in Wood Dale. The couple made their home in Mundelein for over twenty years and in 2014 moved to Huntley. She was a seasoned traveler, who touched many people with her warm smile, grace and beauty.

She is survived by her husband, David of Huntley, her brother, Jerry (Arlene) Jakubik of Wilmette, her nephew, Scott Jakubik, her great nephew, Ethan and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Phillip.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday and the family will greet friends prior at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be in Mary Hill Cemetery, Niles. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JourneyCare Foundation.
