H. Suzanne “Sue” Vitner, 71 of Huntley, formerly of Downers Grove, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017 in Rockford.
She was born July 5, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Ernest P. and Helen M. (Davis) Gardner. She grew up in Chicago and Berwyn and graduated from Morton High School and later UIC. She was united in marriage to Robert G. Vitner, Sr. on August 7, 1965. The couple made their home in Broadview and later Downers Grove for many years where thy raised their family. She was employed as a legal secretary for the Leigh Pietsch Law Firm. In the early 2000’s she moved to Huntley. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, investing and finance and time with her family and grandchildren. She was active in church activities and enjoyed watching the Bears and the Cubs.
She is survived by her sons, Matthew E. (Barbara) Vitner of Cherry Valley and Robert G. (Stephanie) Vitner, Jr., of Huntley, her grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Benjamin, Abigail & Joseph, her brother, William P. (Patricia) Gardner of California and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and her grandson, Andrew.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. and the family will greet friends after 9:30 a.m. on Monday March 6th at Christ United Methodist Church, 9009 Algonquin Road, Algonquin. Burial will be in Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
