Earl L. Kopriva, 92, of Huntley, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 3, 2017.
He was born on August 6, 1924 in Chicago, the son of Francis and Marie (Zitnik) Kopriva. He was raised in Chicago and enlisted in the United States Army. Earl served in World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Margaret Karaka in October, 1947 and the couple resided in Berkeley and Elmhurst, Illinois. Earl had a successful career at W.F. Hall Printing Co. Following his wife’s death in 1982, Earl retired as a Vice President of Sales. On September 30, 1989, Earl married Margaret A. Szymanski and they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they lived for fourteen years. In 2001, they moved to Huntley. Earl enjoyed baseball, golf, traveling, dancing and telling stories.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Huntley, his children, Earl (Patricia) Kopriva, Robert (DJ) Kopriva, Joseph (Helen) Kopriva and Marie (Guy) Gordon, his step-children, Paul (Mary) Foszcz, Michael (Kathleen) Foszcz, Gail (Joseph Rucys) Foszcz, Amy (Ken) Saperstein, James (Heather) Parisi, Joyce (Eric) Noyes and Pamela (LeRoy) Scheve, nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, and four brothers and one sister.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 10th at 10:00 a.m. and the family will greet friends prior at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Chidrens’ Research Hospital.
