Obituary

Florence F. Kaplan, 93 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away on Monday morning, June 26, 2017 in Elgin.

She was born November 20, 1923 in Springfield, Massachusetts the daughter of Philip and Marguerite (Duff) Versten. She moved with her family at a young age to Chicago and graduated from Manley High School. She attended the University of Chicago and later Northwestern University where she received her degree in microbiology. She was united in marriage to Warren F. Kaplan on December 15, 1946. The couple made their home in Chicago and in the mid 1950’s moved to Morton Grove. Florence worked for in the lab at Avon for a number of years and later Marcel Cosmetics until retiring. In later years, they made their home on Lake George in Coldwater, Michigan and in 2006, they moved to Huntley. She adored her grandchildren, loved dancing and playing Mahjongg, enjoyed her many friends and was very interested in the political climate and elections.
She is survived by her daughters, Adrianne Kaplan (James Mahoney) of Huntley and Cynthia Cunningham (Robert Cunningham) of Chandler, Arizona, her grandchildren, Kelli Mahoney, Karin (Matthew) Burke, Kimberly (Steve) Shackelford and Cody Cunningham, her great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Delaney Burke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, her brother, Wallace Versten, her sister, Bettejean Dombek and her grandson, Kalan Cunningham.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass on Friday, June 30th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Westlawn Cemetery, Norridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Dear Adrienne and Cindy: My apologies for delayed note but I was out of town. Please accept my deepest sympathy of the passing of your dear mother Florence.
