Thomas C. “Tom” Van Meter,70, of Pingree Grove, died peacefully, August 24, 2017 with his family by his side.
Visitation will be on Sunday, from 11:00am until 3:00pm and from 3:00 to 4:00pm there will be a time of sharing and military rites at DeFiore Jorgensen Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Journeycare Hospice-405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
Tom was born July 7, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois the son of John and Elizabeth Van Meter. He served in the United States Marines and worked as a brick layer and retired from the State of Illinois. On September 6, 1986 he married Janet E. Di Marzio. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Tom was an avid golfer and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, his sons, Michael Di Marzio and Matthew (Melissa) Di Marzio, by his 6 grandchildren, Tessa, Anthony, Nicholas, Andrew, Vincent and Natalie. He is also survived by his his brothers, Gregory (Rosa) Van Meter, James (Maureen) Van Meter, Larry Van Meter, sisters, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Ray) Serna and Peggy Malinowski. He is also survived by his, brother-in-law, Jimmy Wilcox, sister-in-law, Patti (Bob) Seidel, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Tom is preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Skip.

We are so glad we had the privilege to be friends with Tom. We are so sorry we didn't have a long time with him but we are glad he is at peace. We value the recent visit we had with him, not knowing it would be our last. Jan and family, we are here to help in any way. He was a real keeper.

Tommy....I have all the memories we made together over the last 55 years, High School. getting drunk for our 1st time, dating the Catholic School girls, working at Sandys, the Marines, working Construction, Playing cards since we were 16 years, and I curse you every time my golf game goes bad for teaching me this game. I remember Tom as a smiley young student so many years ago. So sorry. He was a cheerful happy young boy. It was a pleasure to be his teacher in Addison .

So very sorry to hear of Tom's passing.
We only knew Tom for a few short years thanks to Anthony. He was a WONDERFUL man who supported our baseball team with his whole heart. We are blessed to have met such a great, warm and caring man. Our hearts go out to all of his family. Our sympathies to all.
