Obituary

John F. Gruber, 91 of Huntley, formerly of Des Plaines, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Chicago, the son of John and Maria (Hochleitner) Gruber. He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a technical sergeant in WWII. He was united in marriage to Eileen Speiser. The couple made their home in Des Plaines where they raised their family and John worked as a tool and die maker for Willie Tool Corporation for more than 40 years. In 2003 they moved to Huntley. He enjoyed wood working, playing horseshoes, dancing and traveling the world, but he especially enjoyed time with his family and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Huntley, his children, Donna (late Paul) Roche of Huntley, John (Nancy) Gruber of Elburn, Jeannie (John) Jobst of West Dundee, his grandchildren, Paul Jr., Beci, Debi, Sr. Maria Sophia, O.P., David, Tom, Jaclyn, Nicholas, Michael and Rebecca, 8 great-grandchildren, his sister, Marie (late Phil) Loretan and his brother, Ray (Nancy) Kratzer both of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marge (Pete) and his brothers, Frank (Bonnie) and Joe (Betty).

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley and on Monday, September 18th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
