Katherine “Katie” F. Remakel, 19 of Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 27, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born February 22, 1998 in Hoffman Estates, the daughter of Thomas M. and Jody S. (Luedtke) Remakel Jr., She moved with her family at an early age to Hampshire where she was raised and educated, graduating from Hampshire High School in 2016 as one of the top of her class. She participated in marching band, pit band, jazz band and the scholastic bowl, and continued her studies at Elgin Community College. Katie was a student of Snow City Arts throughout her hospital journey and discovered her natural talent as an artist and illustrator. She volunteered at the library, and Anderson Animal Shelter, she loved Dungeons and Dragons, antiquing, collecting unique musical instruments, the study of film-making and one of her favorite events was attending comic-con with her friends.
She is survived by her parents, Tom & Jody Remakel and her brother, Michael all of Hampshire, her grandparents, Tom & Rosemary Remakel and her grandmother, Pat Luedtke all of Dubuque, Iowa, her aunts and uncles, Lynn (Steve) Gerardy, Mary (Jack) Koetz, Elaine (Dave) Huinker, Connie (Ron) Priebe, Edward (Barb) Luedtke, Michael (Lisa) Luedtke, Doug (Sherri) Luedtke and Tracy (Doug) Sveum, two very close personal friends, Melissa Dietze and Jessica Woods, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her aunt “Nana”, Marcia Hahlen, her grandparents, Marcella & John Giellis and her grandfather, Edward Luedtke.
A special “Thank You” to Dr. Paul Kent, Kimmie, Karen, Ally and the doctors, nurses and staff at Rush Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 3rd at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson Street, Hampshire. I told Jenn that in every picture I saw of Katie, she always had a beautiful smile on her face - she appeared so brave and didn't let her health get her down - she enjoyed life - she looked happy.
