Obituary

James A. Novalinski, Jr. “Jim”, 78 of Carpentersville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8pm at DeFiore Jorgensen Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, 10:30am with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 all at St. Monica Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dundee Township Cemetery-East. James was born in Chicago, IL the son of James, Sr. and Sophie Novalinski. On June 4, 1960 he married Marie Gates. The couple made their home in Carpentersville. Jim was a loving father and grandfather who was fully engaged in the activities of his family. When his sons joined Cub Scouts he became a Scout Leader and Assistant Scout Master for Cub Pack 80 where he had a direct impact on many people.
He loved attending family events. Baseball games, plays, concerts, graduations, pageants, farmer’s markets and going out to breakfast. He glowed when he was surrounded by family and friends, for the past nine years he looked forward to Friday Night Gigs where they shared a meal and played cards together as a family.
Jim was an active parishioner at St. Monica Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic minister and an Usher. He flipped pancakes for the Holy Name Society at the Parish breakfasts and grilled with them at the annual St. Monica Fests. He wrapped presents for the Toys for Tots celebration and helped with the Annual St. Patrick’s Dance. He also worked BINGO for years where he made countless friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie, his three sons, James A. III (Paulette) Novalinski, David J. (Julie) Novalinski, and Daniel S. (Amy) Novalinski , and by his grandchildren, Ashley (Ehren), George, David, Jr., Tanner, Isabella and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Deborah and many siblings.

My sincere condolences to the Novalinski family. In the short time that I knew Jim, he was funny and so kind. He made me feel as though I was part of his family. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
